More on The Aicardi Foundation

Adam and Lissa Gumson’s daughter, Ava, is one of approximately 1,000 children worldwide who has been diagnosed with Aicardi Syndrome, an extremely rare congenital neurological seizure disorder affecting mostly young girls, inhibiting the normal development of motor skills, sight, speech and many other neurological areas, causing mild to profound mental retardation. Aicardi Syndrome is so rare that most people (including many physicians) have never heard of it, and research into its cause and cure has been minimal. Thus, raising money for this cause has been quite challenging, and has been done almost exclusively by the families of the affected children.

In October, 2006, the Gumsons and JUPITER LAW CENTER organized and hosted their first annual Halloween fundraising event on behalf of the Aicardi Syndrome Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization which strives to make the lives of Aicardi girls more functional and fulfilling. In the past four years, JUPITER LAW CENTER has raised almost $60,000.00, all of which has been forwarded directly to the Foundation, which funds research at the University of California in San Francisco and Baylor University in addition to assisting needy families with the purchase of equipment and other unattainable items. The last event was held on Saturday, October 24, 2009.
