LITIGATION
JUPITER LAW CENTER has represented both the person(s) suing [called Plaintiff(s)] and the person(s) being sued [called the Defendant(s)] in various types of Litigation cases, including Appeals, since 1988. One of the most important things we can do for you, whether you are the Plaintiff or Defendant or whether you are in Small Claims Court, County Court, Circuit Court, Appellate Court or simply a witness testifying at Deposition, is to give you an overview of the entire process, in a practical way, so that you know what to expect, both as to strategy and the cost of pursuing the matter through Trial.
Below are a few interesting facts about Litigation:
- The person bringing a civil lawsuit is called the PLAINTIFF.
The person being sued in a civil lawsuit, or accused of a crime in a criminal case, is called the DEFENDANT.
- There are a number of different levels of STATE COURTS in Florida, ranging from SMALL CLAIMS COURTS to COUNTY COURTS to CIRCUIT COURTS to DISTRICT COURTS OF APPEAL and the highest Court in Florida, the FLORIDA SUPREME COURT.
- The purpose of a DEPOSITION is to memorialize the opposing party’s position on the key issues in the case so that you may prepare accordingly for Trial and, at Trial, to prevent the opposing party from changing his/her testimony.
